For example, in Microsoft Word, you can select text, then click and drag it to a new location within the Word document. When people use a Linux computer for the first few times, whether they come from the Windows or the macOS worlds, they are often confounded when trying to copy and paste within a terminal window. In many programs, you can also drag text to a new location within the same program. For example, you can cut text you typed in a Word document and paste it into an email, or you can copy text from the internet and paste it into a PowerPoint presentation. You can move text between pages, between paragraphs, or even between programs or windows. Right-click selected text, select either Copy or Cut, then right-click the new location of text and select Paste.Copy using Ctrl+C, move your cursor to the new location of text, then paste to the new location with Ctrl+V.Cut using Ctrl+X, move your cursor to the new location of text, then paste to the new location with Ctrl+V.You can also easily paste text you've copied from another program into the command prompt using the same shortcut. Xcopy can copy directories Xcopy can copy all files including subdirectories recursively and can replicate the source directory structure as is. The additional features Xcopy has are listed below. For vi this is how you can select all text and write it into a new file: shift v - visual mode shift g - jump to eof 'y - yank select text :e mynewfile - create a new file 'p - paste into a new file In theory this should work on both Linux and Windows - I tried it on a Mac but it doesn't work. Xcopy is a built in command on Windows OS which has advanced features than the basic Copy command.
